Audience Management

ℹ️

Audience: This article is intended for Syntphony admins

To establish and employ an effective audience system, synchronization of User Attributes is a fundamental prerequisite. These synchronized attributes serve as the foundation for crafting the necessary conditions to define and manage audiences.

To manage your audiences you need to access the configurator via the Syntphony settings panel Settings > This tenant > Audiences.

If no audiences have been previously created, you will encounter an image resembling the following:

No Audiences

In case you have already created audiences, you will find an audience sortable list by name and visibility. Within this list, you can perform the following actions:

  • Modify visibility settings.
  • Access a summary of an audience.
  • Edit an audience.
  • Delete an audience.

This process allows you to efficiently manage and manipulate your audiences within the system.

Creating and audience

Let’s explore the process of creating a new audience.

Click “Create audience” button

You will be prompted to provide the following information:

  • Name and Description: These are multi-language fields.
  • Visibility: Set the audience’s visibility.
  • Conditions to be fullfilled: Define the necessary conditions for the audience.

The Visibility functionality allows you to hide audiences in the audience application dropdown in webparts, content, dashboard, etc. so that they cannot be selected and applied. If you hide an audience that is already being applied somewhere, it will continue to be applied as it is not removed. You can use hidden audiences as a basis for creating new ones.

Fill Name and Description

These are multi-language fields, allowing you to provide information in various languages supported by the tenant.

Configure Visibility

By default it is marked as yes but you can hide it.

Define Conditions

Audiences are comprised of a combination of conditions, which can be categorized into two types: attribute-type conditions and audience-type conditions. These two types of conditions can be mixed within the same audience.

A condition can encompass one or multiple values, and it’s important to note that these values are not aggregated. For instance, if an audience is created with an attribute-type condition for “Location” and includes values like “Valencia”, “Barcelona”, and “Madrid”, this audience will be applicable to all users hailing from Valencia, Barcelona, or Madrid.

If this same audience is further enriched with a second condition of attribute-type “Age” set to a value greater than 50, it will then target all users over the age of 50 from Valencia, Barcelona, or Madrid. These conditions are used to precisely define the criteria for your target audience.

Attribute Type and Operators

The type of attribute dictates the operators available for selection:

  • Number: You can use operators such as “equal to,” “greater than,” “less than,” and “between.”
  • Date: Operators include “equal to,” “from,” “before,” and “between.”
  • Text: Operators are “equal to” and “includes.”
  • Boolean: Simple “yes” or “no” operators are used.
  • Choice: None.

These operators provide a versatile toolkit for specifying the conditions based on the attribute type, ensuring precise audience targeting.

Save Audience

Click on Save Audience

If everything proceeds as expected, a confirmation message will appear, indicating that the process has been successfully completed and the changes have been saved.

Editing an audience

The process for editing an audience is identical to the creation process. However, instead of selecting “Create Audience,” you will click on the audience you wish to edit from the list.

This action will allow you to access the audience’s summary, and from there, you can initiate the editing process by clicking the “Edit” button.

Deleting an Audience

To delete an audience, select the desired audience from the list, click the “Delete” button.

And confirm your intention in the modal that appears.

Changing Visibility

To adjust the visibility of an audience, simply navigate to the list of audiences and click on the Visibility toggle to make the desired change.
